Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt announced the closure of all shops, restaurants, shopping malls, parks, and beaches during Eid El-Fitr starting from Sunday, 24 May, until Friday, 29 May, to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
All public transport will be suspended during the week, prime minister Mostafa Madbouly said in a press conference on Sunday.
The nationwide nighttime curfew will begin at 5 p.m., Madbouly added.
By 30 May, shops will be reopened and the curfew will be extended for two weeks to start at 8 p.m. and end at 6 a.m.
Starting from mid-June, sports clubs, youth centres, and restaurants will be reopened gradually with certain precautionary measures.
The number of COVID-19 infections reached 11,719 after the detection of 491 new cases on Saturday. The death toll amounted to 612 and the number of recoveries reached 2,950.
